The Business of Cyber Security
The cybersecurity industry as a business: who builds, who buys, who sells, who funds, who lends, who advises, who attacks, and who regulates.
It is the companion knowledge base to the forthcoming book of the same name and to The Agentic Edge.
Navigating the knowledge base
The search box (top left) finds any company, deal, investor, or concept. The sections below organize the material:
A · Foundations — what the industry is and how it works: market structure & sub-segments, economics of the industry, how buyers actually buy, and a full glossary.
B · The Builders — who creates value and how it reaches customers: the vendor landscape with per-segment deep dives, service providers and the agentic-SOC reset, channel & distribution, go-to-market, and sub-segment scorecards.
C · The Capital — who funds and consolidates: private equity, venture capital, corporate VC, lenders & private credit, banks & advisors, a maintained M&A transaction log, valuation benchmarks, and deal structures & exits.
D · The Forces — what drives demand: the threat economy, regulation & compliance, the sovereign & government market, AI security — including the "AI for Security" and "Security for AI" threads — and cyber insurance.
E · People & Intelligence — who and what to track: key people, intelligence sources, signals & transcripts, earnings signals, and global ecosystems & talent.
Method
- Daily updates. An autonomous research loop scans deal announcements, funding rounds, executive moves, valuation reports, regulation, and the threat economy every day, and updates the relevant pages.
- Source discipline. Material facts are verified against primary sources (press releases, SEC filings, established trade press); estimates are labeled as estimates; dates are written to the precision the source supports and deal events are labeled announced vs closed vs reported.
- A business lens. Every page treats cybersecurity as a market — profit pools, consolidation dynamics, valuation, and deal flow — not as a technical discipline.
